I'm looking to get a skagit line but was unsure my reel would be able to hold it. I currently have Orvis Battenkill LA V at 4.25" diameter. I don't have a line picked out yet but really a toss up between a the Rio, SA, or Airflo Delta lines.

Well let me know what you guys think.

B-kill LA V 4.25 in. 8.3 oz. 9 -11 WF10 200yds. 30#

The numbers above are for single hand lines.

I'm not saying it can't be done with some adjustment in the line system but it's iffy in my opinion.

Using some type of gelspun for backing, keeping the backing around 100yds, and shortening the running line might let you squeeze it on.

I have that reel with a workable amount of some type of gelspun and I can just get a Delta 7/8 floater on there

Do you have the old la5 (2+ years ago) or the new LA reel, The old reel will hold a skagit 450 with 200 gel spun the new one will hold a little larger line.
