your probably right

Your probably right, but C&D fishing, along with center pins, along with nymph fishing with bobers-or should i say indicators for the more upper class fisherman, along with catching brookies in labrador with dry flies to fishing in Florida for bones and Tarpon are just some of the fish i have caught. Spey fishing is just mearly another style I will use. I will admit, you Spey fishers are proctective of your style-more so than center pinners. But like all things dont take yourself so serious-bad for the heart.

FF, like you I am a newbie to spey. I rarely post but spend a LOT of time reading this site, including the subscription sections. There is a wealth of information here, and a bunch of good guys from all over the world, not just America, willing to share their knowledge and give advice to those who seek it.
I don't understand why you are so antagonistic right off the bat while seeking their assistance. Do you really want some guidance or really want to just "stir the pot?" Your methods remind me of the very sensible saying: "It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool, then to open it and remove all doubt."
Every sport has specific words and phrases it uses. Bobbers are used by hardware chuckers; indicators by fly fishermen. If you don't know about spey lines and skagit lines, do a search and there will be thread after thread discussing them. Then you'll be able to phrase your questions a little more appropriately to get more exact answers, without teeing everyone off.
I guess what I'm suggesting is for you to "lighten the F up" instead of coming off as if you are viewing the world through a glass belly button.

I appologize

Hey, I apologize to everyone who has been offended by my opinions. I can only say that I never intended to disrespect anyone by my opinions. However I never attacked anyone personally and see nothing wrong with people posting there opinions. I will never, and never have attacked anyone for having an opinion. I do know a lot about fishing in general, fly fishing, equipment, environmental issues and more. What I think, is simply that. You can disagree with me, have different opinions, or could care less. I never asked anyone to belive the way I do, or support the things I belive. I just made statements. However I was attacked, by the statements I made. If someone were to say I think fundamentally swinging flys is just the same as C&D. Do you attack him or ask him why he thinks that way? All I ever said was I dont like this show and I prefer to buy american. Boy what a problem that created. So in closing the ones who suggested what i should do as far as equipment, and finding spey classes thanks. To the one who attacked me for my opinions...Thanks maybe we might be friends one day.

I see

I see, someone finally caught on. Its ok to have an opinion, and not get bashed, belittled, and picked on. I am starting to respect this site more and more. However I would like to now state my opinion on MI DNR. I feel that the DNR is not offering correct plantings in the rivers that are best to sustain a re-newable steelhead resource. For example in the past the Grand River has been getting the majority of the plantings, along with the newly renovated Clinton river on the east side. At least with the clinton river townships are being forced to divert road run off. This is not being done on the Grand river. I'm aware that the grand due to its size theoretically can hold a larger population. However its a waste of plants that could be suited in other rivers, such as the White, Boardman, black, possibly the huron, as well as the K-zoo. as long as clean up efforts continue to improve. I feel that there is no continuing effort to clean the grand, and make it a river of true respect. I appreciate the runs it gets, but its like fishing in a sewer. In the fall and spring you can smell chemicals in the water from run off. It is in my opinion truly a shame of a "Grand" River. I think the DNR needs to look more closely to where people want to fish. Not into forceing them to fish where they just happen to plant as most weekend warriors would. The Ausable is a prime example of what I am talking about, as well as the Lake Houron steelhead.

Yes sounds good I belong to a couple of groups allready who I thought were concerned with the preservation of steelhead instead they are more concerned with there tournaments. I wont mention the clubs name but they are the largest greatlakes steel head club.

Wow that sucked...

Sorry guys, reading all of that BS from start to finish sucked. I just got caught up.
Three weeks and counting my friends...let' try and bury this hatchet and go fishing.

Jamey, any solid #'s yet?

I drank some Founders IPA this week...and then tied some flies. I see where some of your ideas come from, so here's a shout to the 6th St. boys!!! Can you boys get that in 1/6th barrels? I could see your Founders IPA with Shorts IPA, and maybe trump you with Shorts 2005 Rocky Top Imperial Porter?!

Midwest Fly Fishing Show

I thought I should say something about the Midwest Fly Fishing Show ... it is my club (Michigan Fly Fishing Club) that puts in on. I am not an officer of the club ... just a working member ... if you haven't been to the show it is truly worth the $10 for the following reasons ...

1) You get to see about 125 suppliers, lodges, guides, fly shops, etc ... all in one place ... all at one time ... yes I supporter my local shops all year long ... but you also get to talk to people from Alaska, Montana, Gaspe', Ontario, etc ... finding new places to fish and making new friends.

2) We bring in featured speakers ... this year it is Bob Clouser, Lefty Kreh and Joe Humphreys ... they will talk, tie and cast through the two day of the show ... worth your $10 ... I think so.

3) There is a 120 foot long inside casting pond so you can try rod after rod to find the right one.

4) The most important thing to me is most of the funds we make return to the local rivers (AuSable, Pine, others ... ) in the form of conservation projects/grants. Also we help with youth education programs in the area.

What would you pay for a casting lesson from Lefty? See Bob Clouser tie a fly? Learn how to nymph from Joe Humphreys?

Sorry is I sounded a little defensive ... but this is a great event for the fly fishing community in SE Michigan.

ok enough

I had enough of saying you dont have to agree with me about my opinions on shows. I'm sure your club dose great things for the fishing in MI. Also last year the price of entry seemed to be a little higher than 10$ at the Macomb CC. Of course I could be wrong. As long as your club continues to do "good" things for the conservation of water and fishing I cant say a bad thing. However it has been my own experience that most clubs that start with the preservation of fish and or wildlife take a turn for the political side of non-sense. Meaning they tend to loose focus of what the club was originally founded for. I tend to shy a away from clubs that affiliate themselves with political agendas-or seminars, and gathering fundraisers. Not saying your club dose that, but I feel if more efforts were actually placed in the true grass roots of preservation things would happen in a better way.
