I've been trying to locate 3/32" diameter brass or copper tubes but can't seem to find a source for them. I've only been able to find 1/8" diameter tubes. Does anyone know where to get 3/32" diameter tubes?
Another option is to use 'model air plane' brass tubes
as they come in this size. Use them for my large tubes. After you cut the tube to size you want, tie the fly, I take a plastic Q-tip, insert, cut to size then, using a small mandrel, run the q tip ends over a candle flame to 'flare' them out.
Dirt cheep way of doing this. The 'orig.' tube come in 1 foot lengths and cost well less than a dollar each.
Been looking for a way to make custom length brass tubes, and I think this is the easiest/best I've heard!!
Sure like those brass tubes for winter fishing, as they give a real good sense of the bottom (you know it when your brass tube bounces off a rock) much better than the dragging sensation of larger heavier wire hooks!
That must be some snow melt you have out there if you need 2 ounces to hold the bottom. Forget fly fishing for sure. When I surf casted in the ocean back east I don't think I used 2 ounce weights and the Atlantic ocean wave undertow was very strong.
Working on the garden and lawn is a good idea.
Will be close to 90s the next few days here, we think summer has finally come, because we surely missed spring. Does this a lot in chicago lately, no spring, just late winter to summer.
3000 cfs isn't that much water ... unless you're in a fairly narrow river
then at that level it's chugging pretty good in many places. And these are the places Mr. Salmon wants to sit. With the free fishing weekend (or is it just Saturday?) the top end of the river should be a complete zoo. If I go up there it will be to take a few pictures to remind me why I love the summer waters better.
All the 'locals' will be home in front of a tv sipping beer. :>)
