Friend is trying to get rid of a Bougle IV 3 3/4 " that he has never really used. How big of a spey line would most of you be comfortable putting on this ? I'd probably be looking at the 9/10/11 WC or Delta range. Although I've also been interested in adding a Carron or Ian Gordon line to my arsenal.

I know backing is always an issue. I would want to fit around 150 yard of dacron #30. (Not a gel spun fan )

Thanks in advance

Baldmountain,

Not sure we are talking about the same reels. I know guys who have Grandspey or XLT in 8/9 weights with adequate backing on the 4". It is certainly big enough for all but the largest lines.

I just don't have any experience with the next size down.

Gillile

Just did a search and found some posts on this size Bougle. Sounds like a 7/8/9 WC and 200 yards backing. Does this sound right to others ?

I can't speak for the Mark V models but the 4" Mark IV will hold either a 8/9 Accelerator, 9/10/11 WC or a 8/9 Midspey and 200 yds of 30# dacron no problem. I have been told that they have roughly the same capacity as a 3 3/4" Perfect.

I don't know for sure about the 3 3/4 Bougle but I'm guessing it would be a bit small for the specs you gave.
