Anyone have any experience with the 5w?

I'd spend my money on a Meiser or Anderson before dropping that kind of cash on a factory rod but I really like the rods coming from Beulah.

Thanks

I thought Barry would get back to you. Anyway, I've used the Opal 5/6 Surf quite a bit and love it. It's the rod I use from a powerdrifter when steelheading Michigan rivers. There was a long thread about speycasting from a boat shortly after Skagit Master IV came out. The truth is that pure speycasting isn't easy from a boat, especially from the back (actually the front-the anchor end is what I mean.) I do a cluster of spey moves and overhead moves and seem to be fairly successful with it. I used the Opal last year where I had been using the original Surf 7/8 before that. The new one is far superior for that purpose. I use the Airflo Skagit Compact Intermediate 390gr on it. I also used it to land a 30# carp and a 12# freshwater sheepshead by swinging flies for them. It really is a hoot of a rod.
