I have a 14' that I have only broke out a few times and it's length wasn't necessary, even on some of the runs downriver and on the DSR. That being said, when the flows increase, out it comes with a Skagit head and I have a version's blast.
Then of course there is are larger issues than rod legnth when swinging any decent size run on the SR - anglers who won't rotate, step in below you, and any other method of fishing on the river covers water differently.
