I`m just wondering what the general consensus is re . the best knot(s) for attaching gelspun backing to shooting line ? I`ve never used either of these type lines before , therefore , am clueless as to any special considerations I may have to be aware of . Is a nailknot the standard ?

On my saltwater rigs (the only time I use gelspun), I like to make double biminis (70 turn) in the GSP, then loop to loop using several passes. Loop the shooting line by whipping, or your favorite method.

from down under has a great coaxial splice with GSP and braided mono that leaves the GSP inside the braided mono loop. It is a 100% in strength and will not cut the way bare GSP will. You can use the resulting mono loop to attach to any looped shooting line.

i second the bimini loop to loop method. also makes changing lines a snap. when they use this method for tarpon i figure it should hold a steelhead or salmon.
