Hey Fellas,
What sources do you use to post photos?
I'm having a helluva time trying to post pictures on Spey Pages. Have been using Photobucket, but now they want to charge me for the service. Not interested in that.
Thanks for your suggestions, in advance.

I know some people have big archives on these services, so I get that. But if you have the pics on your device, pc, iPad, etc. what is the reason to not just upload them directly using this sites upload features? Then those photos become a permanent part of the site data, and two years (or two weeks) down the line when these external companies change their policies, or more likely go out of business, there will not be a picture of a kitten or something there as a placeholder for all time. If it is an issue of keeping control of your images, if they are art photos or very personal, then that is a different thing. Enough people use the external method that seem to know what they are doing way more than I do for me to suspect there is something I'm missing, so I apologize in advance if I'm being a rube.

I sometimes send bits of info to myself as gmail - old scaned tax records, and bit of info, etc. If google goes out of business it will be the zombie apocalypse, I'm thinking, and I will have bigger problems. Still I messed up and sent myself a link to scan of a data sheet of some Hardy reeels I like. This was 3 or 4 years ago and I must have looked it up in my email a dozen times since then. Two weeks ago I'm wondering "how much does that reel weigh" and I go to the email and bam...photobucket...gone!

Photobucket hasn't caught up with you yet, or has it? I was able to post up until a few days ago, now my photos are lock out. Tell me how to post from my computer for future pictures, Thanks!

If you are using a pc then that is easiest. You can drag and drop files into the "drag files here to attach!" box below the text editor when you are writing a post. For devices without a mouse, or any device for that matter, just click on the paperclip icon at the top of the editor to upload photos. Sometimes it helps to use the advance settings, but it is not always required.

I am on a mac and also have the drag and drop option to attach a photo. Using google chrome as my browser. Never understood using third party photo hosting. Much better practice to organize your images on your computer and keep up with them that way. Upload directly to here from your personal files. Don't rely on a third party as an "archive" for your images would be my advice.

I went through same as you, dropped Photobucket since they started charging for their service.
Have been using Flickr, and it works quite well.

The best way to post images to the site is to use the attachment manager (Go Advanced > Attachment Manager). This will ensure what you post here, stays here.

The attachment manager, BTW, is assesible via the above-mentioned "paperclip" icon at the top of your editing window when you are editing a post in advanced mode. Also way down at the bottom - scroll down. This is a common difficulty nowadays when getting and giving software instructions, as anyone that has not already discovered this and hence already knows it will not have any idea where to find it from the instruction "use the attachment manager". :)

This is why 6 year olds are better at this stuff that most of us - they remain unfazed and simply try everything! All in less time than it takes for us to do almost nothing, and get get frustrated.

So this is what I see for most (all??) photo bucket images on the site now.

I'm supposed to pay photo bucket just to see other people's images posted on here?

Seems like THEY have to pay more, but apparently if you have a free account you can see YOUR OWN pictures. Is that correct? This would explain why I only see placeholders in spots where people are saying "works for me" above. They can see their own photos. Then again, there are some people's photos that do seem to work for me too. In those cases it may have to do with total 3rd party photo server requests for an account - if you go over the maximum number of displays on a free account they will shut you down.

Having it load every time someone looks at a particular thread on a public forum can probably burn up the allotted free transfers pretty fast. I kind of feel some simpathy for those sites if they are getting millions of requests to load large photos on social media. That can potentially represent a huge and expensive use of bandwidth, and possibly goes beyond the original idea of a free account to manage all you own photos for "personal" use. Using it to put photos on your Facebook page for friends and family is one thing, but putting it somewhere where it gets a hundred or a thousand requests per hour is something else.

It seems like the main reason for using a service like photobucket is so people can't copy your image and use it without credit. If you remove it from photobucket it disappears everywhere else. For you folks that use them, is that correct? If you are using a photo simply as an illustration for a classified or otherwise don't care if someone copies it then just use the tools on this site instead, I guess.

Photobucket now requires free accounts to sign up for a paid membership so their posted images will become visible, however not all accounts have been effected yet so some members are still able to see their own images posted, from my understanding.

Yes if you have linked your image from your photobucket accounts to this site (for example) and delete it from your PB album, it will disappear from here as well.

Some sites have strict Terms of Service against off site sharing (Imgur) and PB seems to have joined in to generate revenue / cut expenses.

We do have some work arounds though.

For example, there is a Chrome extension which works for the moment (some other versions stopped / were shutdown)
