My first try at setting this type of wing and first attempt at a topping. I have an idea of what I probably should have done to prep the topping to get it to set right. I should have put a small bend in the stem right where the thread ends. I also crowded the head and got a little crazy with the head cement

Nice try. Preshaping gp for tails and toppings is an art unto itself and can take as long as the other elements.

I soak them in hot water to release any funky twists and then let them dry on a round object to match the curvature I’m after. I also flatten the stem at the tie in point and tweak the stem a bit with my finger nail to change the curvature a bit.

It’s good to try new patterns and techniques as it hones your Jedi skills.
