I built one three months ago using Moose antler for the handle (see pic below). I think it will be a fun steelhead rod when using light sink tips. It has become one of my favorite rods for smaller waters and should be exceptional for trout. Loaned it to a gentleman who always uses high end equipment and he was very impressed. The texture of the blank (silver flecks) is unique and you may find the small diameter of the blank concerning as it looks very delicate. It is another good product at an exceptional price from Anglers Roost.

I just finished building the A.R.E. UMH12 13ft 7/8 last night, as my first spey rod, tried a few test casts and seems good, but I have little or no experience with spey rods. Try and PM Herkillez on this forum, as I believe he has built that rod, and I believe he I currently building the 11ft 5/6 switch rod.

I haven't built any of the UHM series rods, only several of the IM6 models. I haven't seen any reviews of the UHM rods, but I suspect Steve Godshall would be familiar with them. You might try contacting him. I too would be interested in his opinion.

angler roost

I did think about contacting Steve. I have a 12 5/6 im6 and really enjoy the rod. It has a wide grain range. Also fishing well with several different lines. I do know that a lot of the anglers roost rods are all over the board with their actions and suggested line weights. I was hoping that this blank would be about the same or close to the 12 5/6. Sigbusa what lines do you like on this rod? Im thinking about building one based on its grain ratings.

As a rookie spey caster I have learned to load my rods on the heavy side of the recommendations have initially used a Skagit Extreme with Integrated Tip, 400 grain. Works very well and most likely provides near maximum sink tip the rod can handle. I would think a more experienced spey caster would be looking into something close to a 375 scandi?
