These three are differing caddis variations, mostly inspired by Harry Lemire's Thompson River Caddis.

I have yet to swing the purpled one (it was an experiment as you can guess) but the other two look really buggy in the water.

That's elk hair, olive pheasant rump and gold tinsel on the one. I like this one hitched and it skids on top most of the time. I've become quite drawn to it in a short time.

The other is black elk over rust brown deer hair and black floss. That one was born on a camp spot picnic table with 808steelheader (Todd) in attendance. He was whipping up several of his specialty foam skaters and was good enough to lend me his vice and his material and his hooks. I have settled on fishing this one without a hitch. It swings just below the surface for me and has a nice silhouette.

OK. That's all I've got.

I like to fish muddler-types, but am frequently not satisfied with my muddlers' abilities to muddle. Some float like a duck...others are better name "Titanic." So the TRC and my Spades from the previous post were intended to out muddle my muddlers.

Why Caddis and Not Muddlers

Confused or ignrant or both but they resemble more of a muddler than a caddis

None the less wonderful ties

Nice ties. I like the natural colored one. I was on the NU at the same time as you and Todd last week and landed a nice buck on a very similar fly. You gotta like those flies tied riverside, they have special mojo.

Back eddy, Fall steelies love caddis/muddlers in all kinds of colors.

Moe, I raised one on one of Todd's foam skaters, too, it boiled on the fly, then exploded on it (but missed) when I gave it a pop on the same swing. I also hooked two (one to hand) more on a Lady Caroline. Seems the natural colored flies were most successful for me, my dark patterns only brought plucks and boils. Lots of active fish. I bet all those caddis patterns will get you fish in due time. Harry Lemire's patterns have inspired several of my go-to flies, it's good to see you continuing the tradition.

Keith:
Those are some beauties and they will find their way in the jaw of steel soon enough. It's not often that I encounter steel and you don't so you know our last trip was a rare exception to the rule!!

I'll be sure to bring more tying materials next time so you have more stuff to choose from. Your creative talent always amazes me.

Pete,
Glad to hear that you got a rise with my fly. They must match the green butt skater hatch on the NU!
