Anyone using this line on an Orvis Shooting Star (Orvis listed as 9 wt) - comments the best line weight and casting characteristics?

Thanks,

Are you referring to the 7130 shooting star? I don't own this rod but have experience with them. They have a soft tip and stiff butt section typical of all Orvis Spey rods, best suited for underhand casting and scandi lines. These rods were purpose built for Salmon angling but by no means restricted and they can throw skagits of course. A good all around line for this rod is the Rio scandi short versi-tip or rather the Rio scandi body with 15 ft. Tips, the taper of this line responds well to underhand casting even with type 8 and cone head fly for winter fish.
