I've always wondered, what does it cost to fish the Alta river?

You don't want to know.... From what I know (whch is little), it's not just cost... But knowing the right people.... Maybe I'm wrong (probable).

I'm waiting for the Zombie Apocalypse to wipe out all the rich fishermen and then have open dibs on the best pools! It's just a question of time...:ROFLMAO:

Per week or per day? I read once that during fishing season the Alta airport is usually lined up with private jets.

This was per week I wish I remembered the lodge. But that’s deff a river where I wouldn’t mind spending the money
I had Googled it once without much luck. Just did it again now, around $30,000 USD for three days.

I guess it also depends on what beat you get

An acquaintance who fished the Alta for many years stopped going about three years ago because there were so few fish left in the river. He goes to BC now.

Wow that doesn’t sound good at all. Im torn between BC or the flowers river.
6 days fishing on Sautso lodge will be aprox 30K $ (usd)+ tips etc...
Travel comes in addition.
To become a syndicate member: aprox 200K $ upfront, and 30K for the 6 days. The membership is yours til you pass or sell your spot. Price is set by the other members of the syndicate. Transaction is facilitated by Frontiers as far as i know.
Best of luck

I'll see you my Bentley and raise you an oceanfront property for a crack at an Alta trophy fish.

There are inner circles, and then there are inner inner circles. Makes me feel better about playing the Quebec ZEC lotteries :)

While we are on the subject. I was on the Restigouche last summer and saw Ristigouche Salmon Club canoes come by each day. Just curious if one could get membership what the cost would be. Anybody have any idea?

I have friends who are members. You need to be invited by a member and as I understand, it might take many visits before being extended the invitation for membership. It's expensive, and exclusive, but not unattainable. Let me know if you get in...you would be my newest best friend! 😂😂😂

I can vouch that the RSC has some fine water on the Lower and Upper Restigouche.

Here is one of my favourite stretches above the Iron Bridge below my camp. Lower Poker on the NB shore, is in the foreground, Jim’s Crack is in the middle channel, and Matapedia Run is on the Quebec side in the background.
Fighting a fresh run Springer like this beauty in this vast bawling stretch of water usually involves chasing it a km. downstream in a Sharpes canoe and trying to regain 100 yards or more of backing to avoid being spooled.
Let me know if you’re up to the challenge and want to join us for the hunt.

There are affordable options here for quality salmon and sea run Brook trout fishing.
Regards from the Restigouche... Jim

I have fished there a couple of times as a guest. There are only 24 or 30 members ( can’t remember which) equally divided between Canadians and Americans. You would basically have to wait for someone to die, or possibly go bankrupt, and then be nominated by a current member and get elected by the rest of the membership. I was told that several prominent people have been black balled even in recent years.
Don't forget you have to know the secret handshake!!!! 😋

There are some small possibilities for getting a pass in the Alta river without breaking the bank and let go of your family heritage:
(but you have small possibilities to set the time for fishing time)

Sale of out-of-town fishing licenses 16/02/2023
The card sale for out-of-town residents will be carried out online on 16/02/2023, and the sale will start at 17:00 (Norwegian time).
The sale will be streamed at Altaposten, and the broadcast will start at 16:45

WEDNESDAY 08 FEBRUARY 2023 / 09:59
Everyone who has registered for the draw will receive a message via SMS. Monday 13/02/2023 about which number they have been drawn in the draw. It is the first 75 who get the opportunity to buy a fishing license, but if any of the 75 refrain from buying a card, those who have been drawn by number after will get an opportunity.

After you have received the message, you will have the opportunity to check the purchase board when you log in to Altaelva and see which fishing licenses are available.

The options are either 2 days in all zones (except Sautso), 3 days 1.-19. August or 6 days 19-31. August in Raipassonen.

The price of the fishing licenses is for 2 days Sandia, Vina, Jøraholmen and Raipas NOK 7000 (approx 630USD)

3-6 days in August in Raipasson NOK 4800 (approx433 USD)

(Guide with boat and accommodation not included-no roads available - riverboat is normally a must have)

There is a rule that gives the locals relatively fair price for beats the first 3 week in June, this is also settled by draw. The locals may also bring a "friend-co fisher". The friends name must be sumbittet early on the new year - januar -februar I guess.
So if you find yourself a new friend i Alta there are some possibilities...

You can probably fly to western Russia and fish for a week for less money. Once people try to make things that exclusive it kinda loses it appeal....
