As some may remember (especially Aldo), Aldo posted a pattern called the flying circus just over a year ago that I took a liking to. I messaged him and he kindly gave me the ingredients to tie it up. I made some modifications and it proved to be a steelhead winner.
Fast forward to this summer and I was continuing to modify the fly. I didn't really like how the originals rode in fast water - they would often spin and sometimes would not stay afloat. I decided to try a larger (wider top) head on them, and it seemed to do the trick.
Then a buddy informed me beach fishing for pinks on dry flies was doing well, so I figured what the heck. I threw the flying circus together in some "pink salmon" colours and took to the beach with the fly rod. These flies with the larger top produce a heck of a wake - and the fish really seemed to like it!
