Where would you cut a traditional spey if you wanted to use sink tips on it? A friend has a 7/8 floater and I want to cut it to use with some rio sink tips I have. The tips weigh 129 grains, I believe. The 7/8 weighs 650 grains. Would it be possible to cut the line so that with the tips it comes out to around just under 600 grains total? Just an idea. Thanks,

Brian

I think to turn over 129 gr with the 7/8 traditional you would have to cut it way back, far enough that it would become extremely short and you would never get the 600 gr you are looking for. As an example with the 10/11 traditinal I can cast 129 gr tips quite nice by cutting that line back 18ft from the front taper. You may be asking a bit much from the 7/8 line to cast 9wt tips.
