Early Season
By Clearwater Frank

Standing in the Clearwater up to my knees casting my waker as pretty as you please

The river is high but it's running clear the geese are flying and I'm seeing some deer

My waders are leaking it's wetting my leg but my fly is ignored like it had the plague

I'm hungry and thirsty and baked like a scone my arms are like rubber I'm tired to the bone

I'm flailing away but I can't get out as I'm obsessed with Steelhead trout

The season is new just starting this year but I wish that some chrome would hurry and get here

I've been out on the river with my little "jailbait" in "hotpants" hoping to see a hot steely dance

I've rolled my dice down at the casino a few times but no silver I've won only that damned gold to spoil my fun

So it's cast after cast down by "stinky town" hoping to see if the chrome is around

I know it's to early the fish just aren't here but it gives me an excuss to be out and about

I'll keep on flailing away cause I obsessed with Steelhead trout

Poppy,

What I would not give to be standing there rolling the dice for silver and or gold with you. Nicely done!

Hey tip...

Thank you for the kind words. I to wish you and that radical camo clad buddy of your's were over here to swing a few. I could sit on the bank and watch how it's done.

Speaking of prime rib I was at our eatery of choice not long ago with a seller of fine fly tackle. This man, who shall remain anonymous to protect the innocent? drove us over in a new Suburban. He had the "Grande" prime rib and I swear to God it was as BIG as his car. Linda and I thought of you all while we "chowed down". :whoa:

MJC my fine friend,

Once again again you astound me with poetry that rivals Emerson. Keep up the great works of art while fishing is more reflective of days to come. Thanks of thinking about the tip and me, I assume I'm the radical you speak about. Tracy, Nolan and me, and Jerry Brown, former Gov of CA wish you, Linda and Josh had some time before things got busy to join us in Seattle and beyond. Josh would love crabbing with Nolan and I built him a fish trap that rivals anything our acient brothers ever made. The Tip wants to use it soon on one of his up river expeditions because it's soooo deadly.

Hope the bright silver you speak about finds a healthy home in your river soon and I know the gold you talk about is still a beautiful creature to all poets alike. I will try and drum up some work at old stinky so we can spend a first light, you first my friend, talking "jail bait" and swinging OC's till the sun rises above the trees. :smokin:

Yo OC...

In your case "radical camo clad buddy" is a term of endearment.
As for that gold I spoke of, it has it's medicinal value. Whenever a large one grabs on for a second or two "ole Poppy" thinks he has some chrome and it gets my blood moving thus saving me money on "nitro" pills :lildevl:
