First, respect for all the featherwing tyers out there! I can’t get those feathers to look good no matter what. After a couple hours of trying to make some featherwings work I gave up and made these. Hopefully I can have a box rounded out by September.

Thank you everyone for the kind words! I have had a lot of luck diping the tip of squirrel tail in super glue and then using 12/0 nano silk to keep the heads tidy. Haven't had any pullout issues which seems to be the primary problem with squirrel.

Right there with you, brother. Oh, I do tie a few feather slip wings, but mostly I just try. The term 'wing-set' has become synonymous with 'mother-f'er' as seemingly perfect wings roll to the far side of the hook on tightening. So, mostly I tie and fish hairwings - but I still try to tie slip wings in the vain hope that I'll have a breakthrough someday. We'll see. Oh yes, terrific flies.
