The GASS...

I have this rod also. I use it to cast Guideline 3D heads at 540 grains/35 grams. I think the rod could handle more in a dry line. The gram window for the rod is 31 to 36 grams, which might help a custom line builder like Steve Godshall come up with a recipe for your rod. Rio makes floating Scandi heads up to 640 grains, and I think Airflo's maximum is 540... I used the Common Cents System to come up with a rod rating and a weight for a Scandi head. The rod rating from the CCS is a 9.75, right in the correct range. Scandi weight result was 640 grains. That seems a little high... BTW, this is a lovely rod. You will have fun!

I love hearing talk in the vernacular of CCS! It immediately tells people a lot about the rod that adjectives like "strong", "powerful" or "clean" just don't get across. I know some people don't want to acknowledge it's benefits, but I like this method of standardization.

Sorry... didn't mean to hijack this thread, it just got me excited.

I am liking the CCS myself...

Up here in the Great White North rolls of post 1996 shiny US pennies are hard to come by, so I went through the entire CCS manifesto and rewrote the formulas for grams. Once I have an answer in grams it's an easy conversion back to grains. I like to quantify as well, roguebum. Love accuracy and precision. Nothing will drive me crazy faster than someone asking for 5 or 6 of...anything. Is it 5 or is it 6? I can become ornery and deliver 5.5 at times if I can cut an item in half. When I first decided to bend a paperclip and grab a bag of lead weights, I CCS'ed all of my rods, SH and DH. An embarrassing number of rods. Everything from my old Sage GFL set from the '80s, my first rod, a Hardy Wye from the '50s, all of my Sharpe DH cane rods and all of my plastic rods, SH and DH. I had been calling Bob Meiser to ask him for his rod PNs, the rod power numbers he derives for his rods and many others. It is quite remarkable how close the CCS gets me. I like it. Cheers, Buff.
