The 6 weith spey will require a heavier line to get it to cast properly. for overhead an WF8 is about right. Fighting fish is another matter. The longer rod gives more leverage to the fish and probably puts more stress on the rod. I have an 11'7" Meiser for 5/6, but I would not intentionally go after big steelhead or salmon with it. 10-12 # tops. I like it too much to abuse it that way. There is also the issue of being able to put enough pressure on the fish to get it in quickly for release.
