I might make a trip for steel later this fall so tied up these to go with all my other unused steelhead flies.

All on SIze 3 Blue Heron hooks. (All variants for the reasons listed)

Freight Train (wing is silver fox guard hairs)

Coal Car (wing is silver fox dyed black, including the underfur)

Winters Hope (silver embossed tinsel body)

Looks good Eunan.

Where are you thinking of going fishing?
Probably Salmon River NY. my buddies go up there every year and i've missed the last few trips

Nice classic patterns, and they are well done. The Winters Hope is my next job; I would love it to have the same fit and finish as yours.
If i was to tie this again, and i likely will tonight, I would tie the first collar, the wing, then the second collar, just to get some of the purple hackle bleeding in to the orange/yellow of the wing.

Nicely done, as always, Eunan.

I was just thinking about a Winter's Hope today to try as an Atlantic Salmon fly. As so many "salmon" flies are used to catch Steelhead, I was wondering what would be an enticing fly, developed for the chase of "chrome", that may even raise a salmon to the take. I think she'll do!

I would very much like to see how a "Hope" looks the way you're going to try her. I've only done that with hair-wings and never tried it with hackle tips. Post it up when you're done.
