First time attendee! Making the trek over from SW Montana. Purchased my ticket for the afternoon training.
Just purchased an Echo Trout Spey 4wt 11’.

Was hoping to fish a day or two after the clinic. For early May, would a sinking or running line be ideal? Trying to get my ducks in a row before I get there.

Well, I haven't been able to go for 18 years and I miss it, too. We only thought that perhaps a dozen or two would show up at the first one, but I think we were might have topped a hundred. Too bad it's nearly 2500 miles away.
that was an incredible time for sure...

I think your best bet is to hold off on buying anything else till you get there. The Fly Shop is right there close by, plus, tons of helpful vendors will be happy to get you lined out with exactly what you need. I am usually much better equipped after a good Clave that before I go:hihi: Good luck! You will have a ball.

It rains in the PNW!

bring waders, rain jacket, even gloves, chair for the riverside, etc. It can be cold at times, as well as wet. On the other hand.......

Just be ready for anything. :wink2:

I am so pleased that this event did not land on the Canadian Victoria Day long week-end. In Canada we have a National holiday on the first week-end before May 24 and often the Sandy River Clave occurs on that week-end and I cannot attend because it is a traditional family camping long week-end. I attended in 2014 and 2017 and will be there again this year.

Just saw that they added additional information on their website. Looks like they aren’t doing Sunday this year and about 10 less clinics .

I’m signed up. First time attendee. So how does this work? I’m bringing my waders of course, but I also just got a Beulah Onyx 5124. Can I bring it and demo some different lines and reels on it to see what works best for me? I got a Tonic Switch 400 grain because that’s what Beulah recommended, but I’m new to spey casting and would love to be able to try out other heads, running lines, tips without having to go through several hundred (thousands?) of dollars of line purchases.

That’s what this is all about. By all means, bring it!
