Just picked up a burkie 1509 grey blank. I think it's a older blank. Don't know any thing about the action, so I need some input as to the action and good/best line for the rod. I have a DT 11 wt. and mid-spey 9wt. available or do I need something else. I just couldn't pass up the price on the blank. It was dirt cheap. I will finish wrapping the rod this week and I'am anxious to see what is rod will DO!
Thank in advance for your info my fellow spey friends.

Oh yes, it's 8/9 mid-spey line

Thanks,
I also have access to a 8/9/10 windcutter spey with the upgrade. Should it perform about the same as the mid-spey.

No, if you have the 8/9/10 Windcutter and use the 8/9/10 Upgrade it will overload the rod. However, if you use a 7/8/9 Upgrade on the 8/9/10 Windcutter, you will be fine and have a line that has a belly of about 69 ft.

There have been several of us who learned the hard way that using the same size upgrade as the Windcutter overloads the rod; but we also found out if you drop one size for the upgrade, it works very well.
