Third attempt at married wing

2 Attachment(s)
So this is my third attempt marrying a wing. It is a work in progress. Tyed on a 2/0 partridge bartleet. The body proportions could be better. The dubbed section is less than a third. One third, I think looks better. Also the wing is a little high. But the head is smaller and doesn't crowd the eye. I will keep at it so I can send something nice to the FFC auction. Thanks for looking. Nate

Your married wings are very good Nate !!
I wouldn't be stressing about tying something nice for the FFC ... I think you are already doing so :)
Nice work !!

Hope This Info Helps

Nate,

All of us who tie believe our flies are a work in progress. You show obvious talent and ability as a tyer.

My suggestion on body proportions is a simple solution. A small ruler and extra fine point Sharpie. Then mark the the underbody with the head size, the location of the body segments and when needed allow for the ostrich herl wraps (approx 3/32" or 2 mm) between the segments. Be sure to allow for the throat wraps as well. Start the tip/tag area directly above the barb of the hook and the rest will fall into place.

I'm not trying to steal any fire from your post...but I've attached a couple of photos that illustrate what I mean about marking the underbody.

Cheers,
George

Stay with it.

You managed to drop that wing without it blowing up! The rest is easy.

Adrian, Matt, Draggerman, George, and fishon4ever thanks for the encouragement and kind words.

George, you specific comments are helpful. Very cool, I would not have thought of the ruler and sharpie trick! I like that.

All the best,

Nate
