I'm not an expert on Dingleys, Jerry. I know I like them and I know that often there are matching D's and #'s stamped on the parts. I think Dutch is a good source for them (even though there seems to be some drama on that thread). It seems as if that particular winch has sold and I hope you got it. I can tell you that I bought a Farlow Perfect off of James Reid for the same price as that Dingley, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy that Dingley if I had the coin. The only question I have about it is the silver (?) reel foot...I'm used to seeing brass on these older reels. Either way it's for fishing and it looks good on cane.

If you didn't get that Dingley, for sure the Farlex is a good reel. A contemporary classic reel for a contemporary classic cane rod. You'll be happy.

So rad to hear about fishing the Greaseliners...I should have mentioned for you to tie up some Thompson River Caddis in October caddis colors.

Fish well brother and follow it up with a report!

Shoot. Just saw this message Jeremiah. Hope you get this in time, but while the Farlex is nice...the Dingley is never gonna be made again. Great price for that Dingley in that kind of shape - I saw it and wanted it. For me, "good vintage" always trumps "modern good".

Wish you the best on the D!

Good question, Jeremiah. Off the top of my head that are used in many patterns: Golden Pheasant tail, golden pheasant crests, dyed red turkey, dyed blue turkey, dyed yellowturkey, kori bustard (this feather is found in many patterns, and is great wing material but tough to come by), bronze mallard, blue and yellow macaw tail, yellow silk, medium oval silver tinsel, flat silver tinsel, teal for sides(AO has some relly nice widgeon that subs well), jungle cock, black ostrich herl....

that's the short list of standards...dont forget your hackles - mostly black, blue, claret...ha, I dont think it ever ends

Also if youve never talked to Aaron, do your tying a favor and just ask him for material advice...super knowledgeble.

Absolutely cool with me, Jerry. If you're up for it, let's do it. Highland Stillhouse in the late afternoon or early evening still work for you?
