I'm wondering if the renzetti tube vise will allow the use of the Guideline Fits tube devise ( needle ). I love the "devise" but would like to use it in a dedicated tube vise and since I have the Traveler vise buying the tube head is by far the cheapest way to have a tube fly vise.
thanks

I think you need to cut off the piece of the Guideline tool that would normally be clamped in the conventional vise jaw so that you have just the stepped needle. I don't know the diameter of the needle itself (which is probably your original question) which would let you determine in it will fit properly in the collet in place of the mandrel.

If I could make a suggestion, you might consider either an HMH or an On The Fly tube vise. Both of those vises use a Starrett needle vise for a jaw, which is adjustable. With a collet and mandrel tube vise you can interchange collets for different diameter mandrels/tubes but you are pretty much limited to the standard size collets. Either the HMH or the OTF would fit the Guideline needle (sans mounting plate). Also, On The Fly sells a head only set up that fits a regular vise jaw. I've played around with one and it's pretty slick. I believe that it is also priced about the same as the Renzetti.

By the way, I have no affiliation with HMH or On The Fly other than having owned both.
