hello friends

Today i couldn't resist anymore and got few things from the bench, grabbed the vise and went to my little corner where i have my conditioned seat and wasted some feathers... Yes, it took several attempts til i got something that could be called a fly and not a flykenstain lol

This is not a spey, nor a dee, intruder or anything like that, it is a simple, humble, old fashioned Royal Coachman Wet tyed as per the illustraion on the book by Mary Orvis Marbury, with my own little tweak of course (i added the gold ribbing).

The hook is a Mustad 3116 #5 (similar to a modern size 8) with the eye cut off and tapered with a file. The wing is duck quill and i had to use silk for the head because i didn't hadred tying thread on my box.

Hope you like it and don't see too many flaws ;) (no special lighting today, had to shot the picture with the sinple light i use for drawing)

and from the other side:

Cheers
Rob

Thank you :D

Im a real fan of this fly, i think this is the first time i tie it close to the original concept.

Well, now i have tied it, drew it and even hand embroidered it.... maybe next should be a tattoo...

Thank you, Mike and Paul :)

it feels good to be back at the vise hehe, i wanted to start again with something not too complicated to tie (and some of the flies i will need for my trip) but i think tomorrow will give a shot at some BM pattern, dunno, a lady caroline or a carron, not sure yet.

Rob: The Royal C. and I have a long and happy history together. Just last year I was fishing with friends that were using modern patterns, but me and my Royal C. were having a field day. They don't get to be called Classic for nothing. I like the way it looks, it is an attractive pattern, but it is what it can do on the stream that makes me call it beautiful.

Your dressing has FISH tatooed to it. I love the Mallard wings and appreciate the care and skill it takes to tie a fly like this on a #6-8 hook. A tip of the hat to you

Thank you, Dave :D

I'm tying some more in #12 salmon hooks now, i love how it looks and since they are the only up-eye hook i have on that size range they were my first choice. Maybe i will tie a coupl on #6 bartleets and that will complete my set of wet RCs Got dry RCs already done from size 10, 12, 14 and 18 and will tie a couple of streamers too, probably on size 2 and 6.

I think these classics should be tyed on blid eyes or up eye hooks but not on down-eye since it would cause the fly to turn upside down in the water. Would like to know if more people think the same way.
