Mike very tough looking fly....What's the wing built out of? and did you wrap the collar hackle after setting the wing?(the top photo looks that way to me) Also what is the collar hackle?
The wing is made from dyed black/purple/black goose shoulder , 3/3/3 .
I always wind my collar first , secure , pull down , couple thread wraps to "ramp" the setting base , then wings .
The body hackle is male Melanastic Pheasant flank (blue/purple/black) , one side stripped . The collar is female Melanastic Pheasant breast (barred lt.brown/brown/dk.brown with greenish sheen) folded and pulled down . Great feathers and very fortunate that a friend sent me these
I'm stoked that you boys like this fly ..... I have high hopes for this one this spring
I will copy this but use bronze mallard flat wings on them. The body is about perfect there, the ostrich I have always turns out looking ragged, you have a nice butt there :chuckle:
VooDoo has surely put a spell on me...love it so much that I would swing that fly for trout during a BWO hatch.
Adrian
