Does anyone have a tutorial or know the to tie the egg pattern that utilizes a trout bead? They show it briefly in metalhead...looks like a orange trout bead somehow attached to the hook with estaz wrapped underneath and the egg is in the middle.

Any idea, just wanting to try something new...

i would say you should use thick mono with melted end so that the bead sits on it. Never tried but defiantly looks like a killer egg pattern. I personaly fish glow bugs and glue eggs when water is clear.

forget the beads and get a glue gun. Using the glue to form the egg and adding other material for the spawn. Works great and the flies last for a long time.

PS I dont fish eggs for steelhead but if I had to this is how I would put them together.

Thanks for the tips guys!

I do swing, all of the fall and most of the winter. But after a couple months of getting it handed to me I always like to break out the indy rod this time of year and put a few fish in the net. Always get bored of glo bugs and nuke eggs so i wanted to try something different.

Its pretty tuff at the end of the run to bring a fish to the swing. There is nothing wrong with matching the hatch. Sometimes you have to go where the fish are. Most of the rivers I can drive to are all but done. Just small windows of moving fish but most have made it to where it all happens for them. I am not much into drifting flies but this time of year its pretty much your only option. The glue gun was not a joke and for egg patterns its a pretty cool way of getting it done. Drifting an egg is no differant than nymphing a stonefly, what ever floats your boat. good tying
