Hey Guys, I was looking at a few patterns Id like to replicate, and I came across the Senyo’s GL Spey Minnow. Does anyone have a tutorial for it? Or know exactly what materials he uses? The only picture that I can find is on the Orvis site and it’s not that great thanks!
I don't know the recipe but I'm sure I can whip up something similar...... It seems like its not much more than a dressed up comet/boss, etc...
here is my guess for the recipe
Hook: up eye salmon hook
wing: a few strands of flashabou over a synthetic hair like puglisi..forget the name
underwing: looks like blue marabou or arctic fox
body: looks like a lite brite or synthetic dubbing
lower "wing"underneath hook: looks like blue marabou or arctic fox
first collar: mallard flank, teal, or gadwall
second collar: schlappen
head: barbell eyes with dubbing to match body wrapped over them
Thanks Frank, this is the pattern I thought was at Whitakers, Im going to tie a few Im headed to Erie next weekend. Your materials are exactly what I thought as well, Ill try to get a few done tonight and bring to the show this weekend...
Senyo should change the name of the fly and take the word spey out of it. Sorry, it just kinda bugs me. Next thing you know people will think it's a spey fly.
i thought it was called the ice Minnow?
If it is its basically a top tie like a polar Minnow tied on a small tube with big holographic eyes as the focal point.
If the Senyo's Ice Man Minnow is the fly in question, it doesn't have any of the attributes of a spey fly that I can see. In case you are interested, here is a step by step from Senyo himself:
Thanks all for the info, and no the gl Spey minnow is different than the Ice man minnow, that is a much smaller pattern. I've tied a few )GLs I will post them soon.
i like tinheads for great lakes steel (rust belt) and pinheads (c-pinner want to be's) for bobber fishing two handed anglers..........thank you very much :chuckle:
