Tried my hand at setting the dreaded BM without "cheating" on some 2051s. I still need way more practice but I'm getting closer and closer

Green and Gold Speal

Copper Reech (sp)

I dont know what to call this I just had some yellow wool.

I still need to work on proportions and round up some slightly better materials but so far I'm pretty happy with the results. Allways feel free to tell me what I'm doing wrong or whats missing, thanks guys.......

Well done Moe! Next one I'll throw some green in there to get the hole scope of the Cutty bottle.

A hook with a longer shank, such as the Daiichi 2051 (otherwise known as the Alec Jackson Spey Hook because it is his design), the Tiempco 202SP, McNeese Spey Hook, or a long shank (like 6xl or 8xl) limeric bend streamer hook would produce a much nicer looking spey fly. Spey flies were tied as far back as they were listed or mentioned in salmon fly or fishing literature on long-shank dee hooks. That is one of their characteristics and they just don't look right unless tied on long-shank hooks with the resultant smaller gape.

Thanks Flytyer you just made me realize I had them listed on 2051 when they're on the 2151s, they definitly would look better on the longer shank but I'm still waiting on the mailman. Aside from the squat appearence I like the hook simply for its weight to help get them down a bit quicker.

WT,

Yes, the heavy wire Alec Jackson Spey Hook, Daiichi 2061 is exactly what you are looking for. It is available in sizes #1.5 and #3. This hook has exactly the same length shank, same bend, and same gape as the standard wire version (Daiichi 2051), only the wire is much thicker and heavier. It is the hook I like to tie GP's on because of its heavier weight.
