I've been lurking around the Hooks, Feathers and Floss forum for a few weeks, and finally got up the nerve to post a pic. I was in Joel LaFollette's The Royal Treatment flyshop in Portland last weekend, where he has his 101 Greenbutt Skunks display (101 GBS tied by some of the luminaries in tying and fishing, proceeds to benefit the North Umpqua Foundation; pictures of all the flies available on his website), and was inspired to play around a bit with an old standard.
I think this is a very good variant, the only thing i do not like about the original GBS is the use of chenille, so i like this version very very much. :hihi:
I was at Joel's shop yesterday, after they closed, but he still let me in to check out the displays (let my daughters have some cookies, too). Brilliant depiction of skunks and neat shop.
I wonder where those of us that have a bias against chenille (me included) got it? Maybe we all got the same Junior Gman Super Grade Perfect fly tying kit years ago, that had mostly some hooks, a spool of thread, a horrendous vice, a coupla chicken feathers, and gobs and gobs of chenille?
