A day at the vise

You can tell it was a snowy crappy day here...so I was playing with some sexy long mallard flank, seals fur and Blue peacock neck feathers folded as a collar and one Peacock neck feather as the wing.

Tied with all white thread and tried something I saw on Harry Lemires DVD. I colored the head with permanent Sharpie type markers.....except these were made by BIC. I used Fuschia color and the head cement seemed to draw out the color and made the head look like a glass bead.

The name Night Stalker has been suggested.....I like that name , so I am going to do a few different ones in a series. A dark ( the Night Stalker) a bright ( Bright Stalker ) and a neutral. The Bright is further along in the post.....I will update when I do the neutral.

Hi Dave....wasn't really going for the egg sucking thing. I just like the heads to look like a bead of glass when done. It seems to have tinted the clear Sally Hansens a bit.

I love seal behind a folded hackle as it keeps the collar from collapsing in the current. And I have had pretty good luck with this style of pattern.

Thanks for the compliments guys....I was going to call it Barney because it had all the purple of that big kids dinosaur....but I like Night Stalker...anyone aware of that pattern name being taken?

Love the colours ;) , and the red head just sets it off nicely.

White thread is a good base for the Pantone colours, and if you want to wrap the head with fluo floss.

Got to work out a facility for a 'furnace' set up for heating the wires first!

The Bright Stalker

Here is the second fly in a series of perhaps three flies.

Body- Rear half orange tinsel from Uni Mylar Peacock/Orange roll
Front half bright orange seals fur spun in a dubbing loop and brushed

Collar - Bright orange teal flank tied as a folded hackle, with a red golden pheasant flank folded in front of the teal.

Wing - Two bright yellow rump feathers from the golden pheasant. Bottom feather slightly longer than the top feather. Both tied in like a flat wing on top of each other

Topping- Golden pheasant crest feather.

Thread - White 8/0, head colored with a bright orange Bic permanent marker then three coats of thinned Sally Hansen's, finished with three coats of unthinned Sally's

Hi Brood.

I really seem to get better hooking and retention with w ring eye. I use an open loop knot and it really makes the fly swim. The pull is straight and I get good hookups with very few short strikes.

Daiichi #2151 makes a great ring eye with a nice tapered return loop. These were tied on some Tiemco 200R as I had run out of Daiichi.
