I was looking at Jamie Daly’s last post with the funky feathers from John Mclain and I remembered I had some from my last order to him. Like Jamie’s fly, it’s not what you would normally see on this board but what the hell.
YEAAAAAHHHHH!!! Nice, Charlie! Your color selection is an interesting blend. Seperately, I wouldn't think it would work, but when combined, perfect. I guess it's the old adage, "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts". Top notch, as usual! -Jamie
That's how I started tying flies, feather wings on Mustad 3665-A hooks. Some where in the eighties I went to ring / ball eyes because I thought the fly swam better on that style hook. Using flies very much like you are showing me here I caught fish from Newfoundland to my home here in AK. The feather wing streamer is the style fly I would choose if I were only going to use one type.
I justify all my flies as streamers. Some are short because they are tied on standard #2 salmon hooks but once they are wet they sure as the devil look like streamers to me.
Did I mention that's a beautiful tie......................
That's a very nice traditional Carrie Stevens type of Maine Landlocked Salmon streamer which I think might work extremely well in any Maine, New Hampshire or Vermont salmon stream or trib., especially on an early morning or evening with a dark gray, bluish and purple sky.
Now I gotta buy some more stuff from John. That is a nifty fly and convinced me to try and find my checkbook from under all these jungle cock necks and polar bear hair. lol
