The first two have CDL rooster saddles for the body hackle (tough to see in the 1st pic)
excuse the mongo head on the second one....ouch that one got away from me :hihi: edit: after looking at the second photo that maybe grizzly bird fur....the jury can't recall
This one is CDL Hen Soft Hackle collar and CDL Chickabou tail (photo thanks to Black Francis)
After seeing Jean Paul's flies in Shewey's book, I googled him & came across his site. I was amazed at his use of heron & CDL for salar flies. It was something I never saw used in my neck of the woods.
I can't wait to try his flies in my rivers this year!
I really don't know if CDL will make a difference to a salmon's eye, but it sure does to mine. It's just fun to tie & fish new materials!
" something I never saw used in my neck of the woods."
I think I should clarify that I have seen this in flies tied by Daniel Dufour(Coq de Leon in Marriner's book), but never as hackle on hairwing doubles.
I'm a fan of JPD and CDL alike. This is a great integration of the two. I'd be interested in seeing how this behaves in the water. Very lovely
