I wanted to try tying some dees after seeing all of the great ones here lately but I don't have the right hooks yet so I tied these up on Bartleets to get the feel of it. Like an idiot I started with amherst and I can tell that the wing is going to come apart in the water. The second is a purple plus and I got the tail and jungle cock too big. I'm going to try some more traditional patterns when I get the blind eye hooks. I like the critiques so feel free to give me some pointers. -Murph

hmmm i can't see any picture in the thread.

Sbout hooks, any long shank, straight hook should be ok. The courved bartleets give a nice looking result, but the original dee hooks are straight.

//EDIT: I can see the pictures now! i like the look of them, specially the white wing. I see you already got the trick on the wing tying point, thats one of the most difficult parts to learn in my opinion. Great job!

Wings are properly tied in and that is the biggest hurdle I've seen folks new to dee flies having. I'd make the body a bit longer, along the lines of traditional classic featherwing salmon flies with the tip at or near the point of the barb and the tag not going any further up the shank than the hook point. I'd also make the wings a little longer and have them end at or a little beyond the hook bend. You are well on your way.
