SpeyCo Tube part I

Place the 21mm long section of the previously cut (+ heat flared) SpeyCo pipette tube in the tube vice. Start with 14/0 GG sheer grey thread and tie in a length of Glo Brite #5 red floss

Wrap the floss as a butt

Tie in a length of medium oval tinsel

Select a length of silver flat tinsel & cut end obliquely

Position the tinsel ready to tie in

Tie in the silver tinsel

Add some varnish on the tube for added security (bonds the tinsel to the tube after wrapping)

Wrap the flat silver tinsel in even overlapping turns over the rear 3/5 of the body

Trim off the excess tinsel

Part II

Select a small pinch of black dyed natural dubbing (fox tail underfur)

Spin the dubbing onto the thread

Wrap the black dubbing over the front 2/5 of the body section (leaving sufficient space for the hackle and the wing)

Wrap the oval silver tinsel in open even turns over the body sections as a rib

Select a purple dyed cock hackle

Tie in the hackle by its tip

Double the hackle

Wrap the hackle

Tie in a small bunch of black dyed marble fox as the underwing

Part III

Tie in 4 strands of flat pearl flash over the fox

Select a barred feather, and strip off one side

Tie in the feather by its tip, and wrap the feather (in this case in reverse due to the side of the fibres remaining on the rachis) as a collar

Tie in another small bunch of somewhat longer black dyed marble fox as the over wing

Select a matched pair of JC eye feathers

Tie in the JC at an angle to complement the wing

Fold back the JC stem, and take a few wraps of thread over the folded section for added security, then trim the excess

Finish off the 14/0 thread with a couple or three half hitches, and add a dab of varnish, then restart with black natural silk

Complete the head with the black silk, and then use three half hitches to secure before cutting the silk off

Part IV

Varnish the head with several coats of clear varnish for a good gloss finish

The finished tube fly

Add a small section of appropriately sized clear silicone junction tubing at the rear of the tube, and then your preferred hook for the fly ready to fish

Just add water & go fish!
