Hey Rick,

Here are some of what I call wet flies with soft hackle. The style has changed from the Pennsylvania soft hackles I fished years ago but the target is still trout and char. These are tied on #6 Partridge and #5 Diiachi hooks. In the water here I use larger flies than in spring creeks down east. I want to tie more in size 8 & 10 for use in the western states because someday I will move back to Colorado. The idea that the flies that work here won't work down there never crosses my mind.

When I traveled the countries of USA & Canada I took with me eastern style feather wings and wets and they worked everywhere I fished. I brought them here to AK. and they worked here too, however I began to tweak patterns to give myself a sense of creativity and they still work so...............

Hares Ear gold rib with pheasant rump;

Silver with pheasant rump;

Copper with pheasant rump;

Black pheasant rump;

Mixed body gray with copper rib pheasant rump and wood duck;

Pretty simple ties, some have a little partridge and blue eared pheasant or golden, but most are ringneck. I make some bigger ones using dyed mallard flank for both hackle and wing and they get torn up. :)

Copper with pheasant rump

Ard,
Copper with Pheasant rump is what i been tying and using only i bend the 200R up at the eye to make lil salmon hooks without the Japan finish,i will try and post a few pics later this week,also this is the exact pic i speakin of earlier. Keep up the great ties too Ard , i have been enjoying these for awhile ,but I'm a Trout Spey guy,This fly will get a workout when i go visit my sister up on the Cataraugurus Reservation.The steelhead will approve im sure.

P.S. i use the Daiichi 1270 instead of tiemcos daiichi hooks are far superior in my book.

Wow!

You guys are too cool!

Thanks for all the nice feedback, I've been spending more time splitting wood than tying flies for months but spring is right around the corner. Right now we are gaining 5 minutes and 30 seconds of daylight each day, so each week is almost 40 minutes longer than the one before :) The longer hours of light make a fellow believe that the ice is gonna melt off your favorite creeks and rivers and you get energized.

Thanks to all of you,

Ard
