#3 speys

Tying some size 3 spey flies. This is my preferred fishing size for most conditions. It is hard to find the right mallard feather for this size, so I do leave the wings a little longer than I prefer.
Incredible tying on these pages lately. Thanks for sharing and thanks for looking.

Your tying is so tight. I could not pick a favorite. Always enjoy your posts.

Bottom right, with the tented brick pheasant feathers (I think) as wing! That one is my favorite.

And the two to her left!

When Mike and Tony roll in and use words like “amazing” and “stunning” you know you’ve brought your A-Game to these #3’s!

Awesome spey flies...

The hooks look like AJ's?
I love the "size #3" in that hook.

I wish that the McNeese BH hook came in the same size as the AJ #3. The BH 3 is almost exactly the same size as the AJ 1.5...

Thanks fellas! These are a little raggy. But they do the job. They're fun to tie and fish.

Yup. #3 AJ 2050.
Agree. the blue heron hooks are larger, but they are pretty.

The bottom right, I call the Redgolden. In bigger sizes I tent the wings using 2 golden pheasant rump feathers and tie over 2 flank feathers about half to two thirds the length.
For size 3s and smaller, I'll just roll and hump a single feather of each and tie one over the other. As I've done on this one.

It has been a lucky pattern for me over the years for salar and steelhead, but mostly because I use it so much!
