After Eight

Gave this pattern a whirl. After 30 days of lockdown........you get a lot of time to research and try new patterns. A Bob Warren pattern from Veverka's book. Thanks for looking.

Nice! In the years I fished with Bob (20 something) I never knew him to fish it, much less even talk about it. If I ever get to cross the border this year, I'm going to give it a go....looks to good (at least your tie does!) not to try it. Bob was attached to his Cutty Sark at the hip.

Funny you mention this pattern. I was just looking at it in Veverkaís book and thinking that I ought to do up a few. Looks plenty fishy to me!

Thanks Gary. I’ll have to try the Cutty. I saw Mike’s stellar version on here. Do you happen, or anyone else, know where the name After Eight came from? Just curious. Cheers. Mike

I'll email Bob's wife, Linda, and ask her if she knows. I have a large suspicion that is related to adult beverages.

Bob's wife, Liinda, recalls that he named it that because it seemed to work best after 8 in the summer evening with the light was hitting the water differently than earlier.

Great fly and photo. Very nice. I think green and yellow are underrated colors in the steelhead world which, at least to me, is often dominated by hues of purple, blue, orange, and pink. I need more greens and yellows in my box.
