Purple Heron

This is a fishing fly, so I extended the tag forward and pushed the body up, away from teeth. I also used the full BEP feather, instead of stripping one side. I'll be interested to see how she swims this week.

Well if it swims half as good as it looks than it will be twice as good as half of my flies............just kidding!!! Awesome tie man

That is one of the nicest flies I have seen on this forum!! Absolutely perfect to my thinking. What did you use for the collar please?

The collar is gadwall which I picked up in a big pack on Ebay. Gadwall flank feathers can get very long--in fact, if I'm not mistaken Dec and Marty have used Gadwall for spey hackle on smaller flies. Seems like a read it somewhere in their Steelhead Flytying Art and Design. It's also nice b/c of the stark mottle--more pronounced than some of the other birds, though Widgeon is nice too.

While your fly is very nice, that table top is amazing.

It may be that the table adds a little bit. Here's the exact same fly on a normal table top.

That's a beautiful fly! I would hit it if it swam by me.
