I'm looking for a good example of a married wing made with amherst tail feathers. I've done some looking and haven't found much. Anyone have a pic?
Thanks
The fly in the thread below has Amherst tail maried into it. It is a pain in the ars to mary and I imagine that is why you asked. If you are having problems try washing your tails with a very small amount of Woolite detergent and blow dry them with very low heat. This sometimes helps. Of course the best way is to find tails that have fibers that stick together good in the first place. I will buy any Amherst tail I see that looks good to me. Sometimes I get lucky with a good one. The rest I dye and use for hackles.
Boil some water and steam the tail as the water boils. Get the feather to the point of being wet then blow dry or just air dry. Sometimes that helps.
Good luck
