the "Bogan"

"The Bogan". A fly designed by Robert Lanzara of Malinda's Fly Shop in Altmar, N.Y. I tied it on the Blue Heron #3 hook.

I usually have my best luck with regular steelhead wets, spey flies & dee flies during the month of October. Once we get into November I like to swing Intruders and cut-shanks of various sizes from 2.5" up to 4" in total length. I switch back to the smaller more traditional flies in April when the water starts warming and dropping.

Bob Lanzara has been Malinda's partner for the past 15 years or so. He's in his late 80's and is in poor health and doesn't get over to the shop anymore. I first met him around 1994 and picked up many good tips from him (both fly tying and fishing).
