The hook has a history of being a platform for a salmon dry fly. An original in the Code Iron series from Partridge known as Code 01, light wire, Wilson bend, forged, looped up eye, black finish.
I've tied many dry flies on these hooks. Along with soft hackles for riding in the surface film or just under.
I have found hooking and landing success rate substantially lower than other irons in the series. The point length and holding area is about half the length of the other irons within that series and other hooks and irons in general. They do have a sexy profile, however as a fisherman first, I prefer not to use them any longer. I find the Paul Brown dry fly hook from Gaelic Supreme to be a far superior hook for light wire irons. Unfortunately, like most Gaelic irons, the Paul Brown series is discontinued.
