Marty's Retirement Gift

Well, we did Marty's retirement swap, now I am proposing a Marty Howard thank you/retirement gift. He deserves it! If it weren't for his SBS's, half of us would not even be posting our flies here!!

This is what I'm thinking...

Tie up your best Marty fly, it has to be from something he posted in a SBS.

Send the flies to me and I will put them in a beautiful display frame of some sort, and we have a gift to give back to a man who has given so much to us!

Something like this...

One of his "Gaddy's",

The Roster of tiers:

1. Bwana Bill- Red Ween Gaddy
2. Back Eddy- Purple Seal- received
3. wharfrat- Olive Garden
4. TimW- Purple Skunk
5. GreenSpot Jerry- Irish Half Dress
6. Cane Caster- Skagit Mist
7. hitcher- October Bright
8. Jabrowning24
9. kevin200100
10. Rifflehitch- Cosmic Prawn
11. MZilliox
12. Chief Jay- Green Flatlander
13. The dingle down- Black Heron
14. Big Tuna- Swing Shift
15. Soren- Married Wing Steelhead Fly

It's somewhat of a loose deadline, but I'm thinking within the next few weeks, or so. First week in May kind of thing.

Send to:

William Bakalis
351 Mohican Lake Road
Glen Spey, NY 12737

Thanks to all!

-Bill

If we all tread lightly, he'll never know!

Thanks for joining up, brother. I just thought it would be a great way to pay a little something back to someone who has contributed sooooooo much to our forum.

Deadline? It's only one fly, so how does the first of May sound, or there about?

Perfect

And yes without Marty and his very generous talents all would be not the same

Superb gaddy - a great tribute to Marty!

I'm in, Purple Skunk, he was with me when I caught my first steelhead on the Deschutes. Guess what it was on one of his purple skunks.

Irish Half Dress

This is a great idea. Count me in!

I can't begin to tell you how much I have learned from Marty's SBS, as well as how many steelhead have come to his patterns, which I have tied over the years.

This fly produced a great hen during the waning canyon light on the Deschutes this fall. I had been tossing an orange and black hairwing all day; battling wind and an epic leaf hatch. I had a wild hair to change up my fly after swinging all day, and this little beauty was the ticket. Just one story of many, which I am sure we all have when it comes to Marty and his flees.

Parkinson's took care of that but noted Tim's comment on Purple Skunks. Ditto on the Deschutes; most effective colour I've found.

Bill.

Stellar plan brother! I know Mr. Howard has helped my tying with his SBS, and posts here on the Pages.

Count me in for a "Skagit Mist"

Hell of a nice Gaddy too!!

Cheers.

Thanks to all who have joined so far. This is going to be a fun project.

I've added a list to the original post to keep track of tiers and flies. I have 12 spots, not full yet, but I'll be flexible with that, as well as the deadline.

Josh and Kevin, you guys are on the list- wouldn't be the same with out you! There's no rush.

Also, if you've signed up, please pick a pattern that I can add to the list so there are no duplicates.

Again, a big thanks to all,

-Bill
