at least give me a state in which you will be fishing so i can discern what sort of action we are talking about here. we talking big fall browns on the big water of the South Fork, or tiny tribs? If its big water and big browns id be tying up stuff in olive and crystal flash. olive and white. or better yet, check out some of the recent flies from Fish Tech. those look like they would be some nasty brownie snatchers, or any large predatory fish. example, but hes posted many lately that are super fishy:

this aint rocket science, we are swinging "streamers" that are easier to cast than traditional streamers on a single hand rod. thats what those big tubes and shanks are, they are streamers. :smokin:

Or heck, tie a bunch of muddlers and call it good :D

I like to practice every morning with my larger two-handers when camped out for trout fishing in N. Idaho. I put on a small muddler or a wooley bugger and always manage to catch a few trout in an hour practice session. It has had me thinking I need a new two-hander to better match the size of the fish.

Calista Diane

I came across an unknown, but classic, new england style streamer in the Fairlee Vermont country store a number of years back. Guy tied it up and named it after his. Daughter Diane. I swing that on my switch rod and single handed rods here in massachusetts and do quite well on our local trout.

Simple pattern: long streamer hook, peacock herl tail, copper wrapped body ( i use copper macrame threading) white bucktail under body, red throat, mallard over wing.

Point is, don't be afraid to try some of the classic streamer patterns.

Have fun!

My favorite fly for swinging. Up in the sierras it may be a 14 and colored like a hare's ear, down low a 2x long shank 8 or 10 in green, or orange and brown. Lead wraps, floss body with copper rib, ice dub thorax, partridge hackle. Great for little pocket water trout on a 4 weight or half pounders on a 5 weight spey.

Think royalty

Someone else mentioned the big three, muddlers, woolly buggers, and sculpins. And I just noticed that someone else stole my thunder - buck royals or bucktail royal coachmen. They are really effective on rainbows and cutts.

Also, among the old patterns that would swing well - try a Rio Grande King.
