William Rufus

Here's my favorite Pryce-Tannatt pattern. As with much of P-T's work, there is a certain amount of variability between multiple dressings of the same fly (as well as in his renditions of classic patterns). I've never found an official dressing for this fly, at least not one that looks like the pictures I've seen of P-T originals (which, of course, vary amongst themselves). This is the dressing I've settled on, with some potential liberties taken.

Hook is a Daiichi 2131 sz. 2...still working on getting a Pryce-Tannatt micro head...need more practice.

This is an exquisite fly. A fly so powerful that it roused me from my hiatus and inspires me to respond and tie. Very very special my friend

btw: skip the micro-head..it would only detract

Great work, Ben! Always enjoy seeing your ties.

Those tippet wings still give me a hard time but you've seemed to do quite nicely with them.

I love this photo and really enjoy this fly. I've never seen this pattern before, yet I have a feeling that you just set the bar by which I will judge one next time I do.

Thanks for sharing this with us,

Fabulous! I love this pattern, and PT's later fly tying work.

I've got a precious few PT hooks (from the Pryce Tannatt estate) made by Forrest, that will some day wear this pattern.

Thanks for sharing!

Dandy as candy, Ben. To view, to fish, or to just talk about. A superb pattern worthy to be relived in our present waters.

Honestly, the first thing I noticed was the head. I'm not kidding. I thought it was/is very well done.

Super tie, Ben!

Nice to see these old 'gaudy' ties with an Irish flavour
