WTB - Wes Drain reel

Seeking a Wes Drain steelhead fly reel. Yeah, I know.

Also seeking authenticated steelhead flies tied by Wes Drain (such as the Drain's 20) or Robert P. Terrill (such as the Surgeon General).

Also seeking any documentation linking Wes Drain to Robert Terrill, Bob Doerr, or Paul H. Young.

Yeah, I have a little project going. Appreciate any and all offers and leads. PM or email to ryan.p.saboATgmail.com

Best,
Ryan

Ryan,

Do you mean the reels that Wes personally machined, based roughly on the dimensions of the Hardy St. John? I ask because I thought he only made about three of those reels. Or are you referring to steelhead reels from Wes' collection (estate)? Unfortunately I have none of either, although I have an E.C. Powell he owned.

Well, a good friend now owns a Young 'Bob Doerr' rod that was once owned by both Wes Drain and Robert Terrill. I'm helping him search out a couple of authenticated flies and hopefully a reel. I'd really love to locate one of Wes's reels - one that he machined, but one of his users from his collection would really be special too. My friend really likes to search out the history of the tackle he collects, and if he can put a Drain/Terrill kit together, it would be really special.

Craig, I appreciate any and all leads. Thanks, man. I'm getting pretty deep into historic steelhead tactics, tackle, flies, etc. as well. I have an interesting project of my own going that's going to take some serious research.

Salmo... I'm a bit of a Powell junkie. And I obviously admire Wes Drain. If that rod ever looks for a new home... Get in touch.

Admiration

Gentlemen,

I admire your passion and desire to research history. It's wonderful that the last generation, to many called the "greatest generation", is so deep in their own accomplishments. On the battlefield, with their families, in their vocations or professions, and of course recreations. it was a great time to be.

I wish you all the luck. Please remember, history is to be shared and learned from. Had to say it. I was history teacher.

I agree. It's only through free sharing of knowledge that history lives. You can count on me sharing anything I discover.
