FS: Orvis DXR 9/10 reel (ideal size for switch rods)

Perfect reel for a switch rod, with a strong, Hardy-like, outgoing click. It's a thick, tough, machined, standard arbor reel with gobs of capacity to hold thick Skagit heads (how I used it). It measures on the outside, 3 3/4" X 1 5/8" and weighs 8.8 ounces including the backing that is on it (supplied). The reel is in superb condition as can be seen in the photos.

The drag is activated using a lever over a 180 arc. I found it very handy to adjust the drag when playing a hot fish. When palming the reel, it falls in easy reach of fingers or thumb. No need to look for it.

The reel is set up for LHW, but I can flip it for you if you want RHW.

These old DXRs are known to get a bit of slop in the drag over time, but the slop is easy to remove through adjustment and I tightened it up when I bought it so it's good to go. It's not difficult to adjust. Instructions and manual in PDF form are on the Orvis site. I have kept copies and I can email them to you.

The reel is U.S.A. made and saltwater grade (aluminum and stainless steel parts).

$175.00 shipped to Canada and CONUS Paypal preferred

Price drop, $160.00 shipped Canada and CONUS. Last one before it goes to that great auction house in the sky.

This is one tough reel that will make a switch rod user very happy.

The reel has a very nice growl to it when a fish is pulling line, but if you prefer silence, the pawl shown in the photo can easily be removed. The setting of the lowest drag position is easily adjusted by removing the chrome bar that is held in place by the two Phillips screws. Just turn the brass nut until the drag is at it's desired tightness or looseness, then put the bar back on. Done.

Note the frame thickness in this photo. It's a full 3/32 of an inch thick. You could club a lowholer with it and keep on fishing.
