Holland & Holland Reels by J Austin Forbes
Owned by a late friend who worked for H & H in the New York City gun room, these reels are saltwater/spey compatable, disc drag, with optional clicker, easily changeable from left to right hand, and also have rim control spools. They were made for H & H by J Austin Forbes company of England/Scotland in the mid 90's and were discontinued by H&H after a few years. The reels are a classy anodized green color with bright aluminum contrasts, and have an easy access drag knob that is a "smooth adjust", no notches for your favorite setting. The click is added or removed by engaging or not the pawl? triangular piece into the gear teeth with the spool removed. The reel seats and spool fronts are "perforated", but not the inner spool like some new reels.
3 of the reels are 4" diameter, one is 3.5". 2 of the 4" are stand alone reels, and one 4 and the 3.5 have extra spools. On the latter 2, there is one large arbor and one regular arbor spool. They all come with one neoprene reel bag and original box and paperwork.
Spools are 1" wide by 1" deep, and an actual 3.5" in diameter on the 4" reels with LA, and 3" on the 3.5" reel. All these reels look alike except for size in the pics. I've been told these reels are very similar JW Young's Sea Venture Reels, and also the Jubilee Model (freshwater version of Sea Venture).
The basic 4" reels were priced at $650 originally in the H&H store, here are the current specs:
2 @ HH3780 LA 4" REELS ARE $325 EACH
1 @ HH3780 LA 4" REEL W/ EXTRA REGULAR ARBOR SPOOL IS $425
1 @ HH3750 LA 3.5" REEL W/ EXTRA REGULAR ARBOR SPOOL IS $375 SOLD!
