Here's excerpt with the rod review.
Dr. Richard Newton - Melbourne Victoria Australia - Fly Fishing in Weipa
Writes about the Elkhorn EX3 9ft. 6in. - 8/9 wt. - 3 pc.
Richard wrote to us after testing the rod with a good friend, a tournament fly caster…
“You might like to know that a friend who is a competitive fly caster and I compared the EX3 with
an Innovator Velocity, and 2 Sage rods, a TCR and an Xi. All loaded with similar lines and both casting. The EX3 was way ahead of the Innovator and compared well to the Sages.”
The big test came later in the next year with a trip up to the top end, Weipa, chasing some very
serious fish in the salt flats. Here is what he has told us about the trip…
“The 8/9 wt. was great! Able to punch out against the wind and control powerful fish including tuna,
GTs and this queenie. As you now know too, we have made a second Weipa trip with similar success.”
Now then, we think the big smile say it all! And most recently, Richard has added another Elkhorn to
the arsenal, an ET Traveler 4 piece 5 wt. XF and are sure we will hear back more .
This series of rods were designed with a stiffer butt section to generate higher line speed and superb accuracy with a slightly higher modulus graphite. The faster progressive action is perfect for making longer casts or cheating the wind. Each model will effectively handle two line sizes to allow greater flexibility under changing conditions.
Hope this helps. I had no difficulties using either an 8wt floating or a 9wt Rio
Atlantic Salmon/Steelhead line on it.
